School Concert in Bournville
Friends Meeting House
Wednesday 26 June 10.20am
Bach to School's concerts in 2019 celebrate the 200th birthday of Queen Victoria. As well as being an iconic British monarch, political powerhouse, accomplished musician and mum of nine, Victoria was a trailblazer, early tech adopter and culture vulture. Step into Victoria's dainty shoes and hear the world as she did through our soundtrack to the Victorian era. This special series will take you inside the palace walls with music from the Queen's favourites, Mendelssohn and Strauss, into the Savoy Theatre of Gilbert and Sullivan fame, and on to the cobbled streets with songs from the Victorian Music Halls.|
Further details of the programme will be announced soon!
|Bournville was founded by the Cadbury family and named after the river running through, the river Bourn. Most famous for its chocolate factory, George Cadbury was also a Quaker and commissioned the construction of a meeting house. Designed by William Alexander Harvey, it was built in 1905. Intended to be inclusive to workers of other Christian faiths, it was equipped with an organ which would not normally be expected in a Quaker meeting house in Britain.|
